Avildsen spent hours filming the tournament scenes from multiple angles
Synopsis
Decades after their fight at the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, middle-aged Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence meet again as martial arts rivals. During the original filming of The Karate Kid, the late director John G. The team behind Cobra Kai dug through the studio vaults and found tons of never-before-seen clips, which were then woven into the series via flashbacks. One of them involves Zabka’s real-life mother, who was in the stands from multiple angles that weren’t seen until 2018.
Ralph Macchio told Uproxx that there are three new angles of the famous crane kick
Many believe that Miyagi’s name on his tombstone is a continuing error, as his name is listed as Keisuke in Karate Kid 4 (1994), but it is actually shown on the memorial plaque for him in Karate Kid 2 (1986) as Nariyoshi. This means that his name was changed in The Next Karate Kid, while Cobra Kai kept the name he was given earlier. However, another interesting fact is that the name given in The Karate Kid Part II is not Miyagi’s original name. In the film Karate Kid (1984), Miyagi’s original name is Hideo, which is briefly seen on Miyagi’s dog tag along with the keys to the 1948 Ford that Daniel was given for his birthday.
I can’t believe how much I love Cobra Kai
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon features: Anthony Mackie/Ralph Macchio/Kiry Shabazz (2018). I initially thought it was a cheesy kids show. It’s not, and any fan of the original trilogy will love it. It takes place 34 years after the events of the first film and follows Johnny Lawrence (William Zavala) as he tries to get his life back on track and open the famous Cobra Kai dojo during the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament.
He’s definitely the shining star here!
This reignites his rivalry with the successful Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio). I can’t tell you how good Zabka is here. It’s a shame he hasn’t been a bigger star for years, because he shows that he can carry a show here. Again, if you’re a fan of the original trilogy, watch this.
I promise you’ll love it!
Stay tuned for more seasons in the future.
